Barrie city council has asked the applicants behind a proposed injection site to come back with a more indepth report.
In June, council delayed a location decision and decided to spend up to $50,000 and hire a consultant to look at sites across the country.
Several companies were approached and all rejected the project, saying the October deadline was too tight.
So, the applicants, who favour a safe injection site at 90 Mulcaster Street, will have to return with a second report.
There is no deadline to receive it.
90 Mulcaster has the backing of organizations like the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit and the Canadian Mental Health Association.
