Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister and Toronto-area Liberal candidate Chrystia Freeland is promising a four-year $40-million funding commitment to Lake Simcoe.
She made the announcement today along the Kempenfelt Bay shoreline with Barrie area candidates Lisa Marie Wilson and Brian Kalliecharan.
The funding would happen if her party gets re-elected this month.
Overall, Freeland says the Federal Liberals would move forward with protection for the Great Lakes and that includes funding for the restoration of Simcoe.
The Liberals would also establish a new Canada Water Agency, the goal being to protect and manage Canada’s freshwater sources.
Earlier in the campaign, the Conservatives had pledged $30 million to restore the Lake Simcoe Clean-up Fund, which stopped receiving Federal support in 2017.
