A surprising decision at a Wasaga Beach committee meeting.
A motion had been added to the agenda for Tuesday's Committee of the Whole meeting to recommend that council lease the Dardanella to George Papastathis and Roger Gray.
The proponents told Bayshore Broadcasting News that they had presented a lease to the town and offered $75,000 instead of the $70,000 a year requested by the town. The two wanted to bring live music to the front part of the Dard.
After councillors met behind closed doors, the committee defeated the motion and another one was put forward, to lease the Dard, for $70,000 a year, to Elusiv Entertainment which is the company that runs the Electric Elements Music Festival.
Roger Gray was surprised and not pleased with the decision. He says he doesn't understand how the town could award this lease to the same who people who run a licensed event when the town has said it wants different owners for its licensed establishments.
Meanwhile, the committee has approved the Electric Elements Music Festival to go to a two day event this year. It will be held on May 20 and 21 which is on the long weekend.
