Latest from Expropriation Discussion

Wasaga Beach | by Catherine Thompson
mayor says he will not attend rally and BBQ

The saga continues over a piece of property in Wasaga Beach, which the town wants to expropriate to make way for its plans for a downtown..

The new owner of 140 Main Street has come out with his own statement after the town issued a news release late last week. Mark Frisoli has invited the mayor, council and the public to an open house at the property on Sunday (October 15 1 to 4 pm).

Mayor Brian Smith tells us he will not be attending. He says the town has updated the public in its news release and staff is looking into all medical services offered to residents.

This is in response to Mr. Frisoli's statement to the mayor that the medical clinic he wants to put in on the property is needed because five thousand people don't have doctors.

Mayor Smith says the town has enough doctors, some of whom are looking for patients. He adds that the real need is a walk-in clinic which the town is working on and an announcement is coming soon.

As for the banner sign on the building at 140 Main Street, Mayor Brian Smith says he doesn't know yet if the property owner has been fined or issued a ticket. But he adds that if it is illegal since it's been put up without a permit, then it will have to be removed.
